Back from the undead after last week's Zombie Walk, this episode leads off with one of the most interesting S.C.-bred artists we've found in a long time, McKenzie Eddy. This Hilton Head-born songstress made her way to the big city as a personal assistant to former Rocafella Records CEO Dame Dash and now resides in NYC where she not only continues to make great music that blurs the lines between R&B, Soul and Hip Hop, but also plays A&R and label executive for Dash's BluRoc label. Check out her story at HipHopDX.com

In addition, this is one of our strongest episodes yet with awesome new music from Weaving The Fate and Ashley Hopkins as well as local tunes from Bitterseed frontman Jon Clark, singer-songwriter Matt Gleason (aka The Beta Project) and rapper Mo Briggs.

Typically Atypical:Episode 3: Damn These Days Post Details

Originally posted on April 4th, 2012 by listenupmb.com

One of the most interesting things about music to us has always been to think about how music affects mood or, conversely, how mood and other external factors can influence the music you listen to in a given day. Take today for example, waking up to a gray sky and damp, cool day on the Grand Strand, it only seemed appropriate that we had a few tracks to match the weather.

This week's episode starts out with a straight up Blues song "Damn These Blues" from our favorite "American Idol" contestant Elise Testone and her band The Freeloaders, out of Charleston. It goes on to include some nice, downtempo numbers — including two which highlight the talents of local musician Claudia Gregory — before picking up a bit and ending on a sunnier note.

Episode 2: Somethin' About Something

Originally posted on March 27th, 2012 by listenupmb.com

We're back and beginning to roll now, with this, the last of our three "launch" episodes.

This week's show really runs the genre gamut from funky acoustic soul to new wave, country, hip-hop, metal and alternative. Not only is "Something About Something" an indication of the hard-to-pin-down nature of the sounds but also an homage past Myrtle Beach favorites Something About Vampires And Sluts, featured on this episode.

It may be a big claim for the first official episode of Typically Atypical, but what the hell? We're shooting for the stars!

In additon to the title of the episode, "It's All The Rage" is also the refrain of the first track on this week's show by Myrtle Beach-based group Red Letters. Check these guys out along with some new-school Dubstep/pop from Atlantic Opening to some older stuff from Not Yet Rated.

A special thanks to Allied Arts, Jeremy Britt and Matt Branham for their work on getting this show going. Since we're just getting started, please help us improve by leaving feedback on what you like, what you hate or what you'd like to hear more of in a comment below or by dropping us a line.
